ReBin Picking - Setup and Overview

Written by Tom Higgs

Overview

Note: ReBin Picking is a paid module, please discuss this with your Account Manager to learn more.

The ReBin Picking module is a three-stage picking workflow designed for high volume multi-item orders. The benefit of this method is that you can pick mixed orders in bulk and then follow a process to separate them before they reach the packing station, using a ReBin wall (or similar setup). It optimizes the picking process by separating it into distinct phases:

  • Initial Picking - pickers collect mixed products from a batch into totes

  • Tote Consolidation - totes are received into buffer (holding) locations

  • ReBin Sorting - products are sorted from mixed totes into individual order-specific slots, ready for packing

Efficiency gains can be increased further for larger operations using the option to split larger batches into sub batches by zones in your warehouse and picked separately by dedicated zone pickers.

Prerequisites

Configure ReBin Settings

To configure the ReBin Picking module settings, please do the following:

  1. Navigate to Settings then Customer Account Settings.

  2. Click on the Picking tab.

  3. Configure the following ReBin settings -

ReBin Picking - Split By Zone?

  • Enable this if you want to split picking work by warehouse zones.

  • When enabled, sub-batches are automatically assigned to specific zones.

  • Pickers will only see sub-batches for their assigned zone in the mobile app.

  • If enabled, please ensure you have set a Zone on the mobile app, please review the Access Mintsoft app - ReBin Picking help guide.

ReBin Picking - Tote Prefix

  • Set a prefix for tote barcode validation (e.g., "TOTE-").

  • The system will validate that scanned tote barcodes start with this prefix.

  • Leave blank to allow any barcode format.

ReBin Picking - Slot Prefix

  • Set a prefix for slot/location barcode validation (e.g., "SLOT-").

  • The system will validate that scanned slot barcodes start with this prefix.

  • Leave blank to allow any barcode format.

Tip: Adding prefixes to totes and slots adds an extra layer of validation so that rebin sorters do not scan incorrect slots/totes by mistake

Configure User Permissions

For each mobile user who will perform ReBin picking, please do the following:

  1. Click Settings then Warehouse User Accounts.

  2. Find the relevant user and click Actions.

  3. Click ManageRoles then enable the Module-ReBinPicking role group.

  4. Click Save.

Configure totes and slots

The totes and slots you pick with and sort into for ReBin work in the same way as totes do as standard throughout Mintsoft already. By default all you need to do is print barcodes for them, which don't need adding to Mintsoft in advance. If you have enabled tote locations via Customer Account Settings, totes and slots must be set up as warehouse locations with the Location Type set as Tote.

Tip: Naming your slots by section can help users find them. For example: Red, Blue & Green sections or simply sections 1, 2, 3. The individual slots could then be named "Red-01-01", "Red-01-02", etc.

Create ReBin Batches

To create a batch for ReBin picking, please do the following:

  1. Navigate to Picking & Packing then Manage Batches.

  2. Create a new batch with orders you want to include in a ReBin batch.

  3. In the batch settings, find the Mobile Picking Type dropdown.

  4. Select Bulk With Re-Binning from the options.

  5. Set the Mobile Picking Priority if needed (Normal, High, Low).

  6. Click Save.

The system will automatically create sub-batches based on your configuration. If zone-based picking is enabled, sub-batches are assigned to specific zones.
