Overview

The Cartons & Pallets module allows you to manage inventory on Carton & Pallet IDs, see an overview of existing cartons and pallets, create new cartons and pallets and generate labels on demand.
Video Overview
The Carton & Pallets Overview page can be used to view all existing carton and pallet records, along with what they hold. As part of the Overview, you can; filter by carton or pallet, edit or delete (It must be empty first) a carton or pallet via actions and perform bulk actions. You can create a new carton or pallet from the overview, as well as have the option to upload cartons and pallets in bulk.

1. Adding roles and permissions
If you cannot see the Cartons & Pallets module on the lefthand sidebar please do the following:
Click Settings then Warehouse User Accounts.
Find the affected user.
Click Actions then Manage Roles.
Tick the Module-Pallets&Cartons role group.
This is the exact role group name.
Click Update.
2. Set-Up: Creating Carton and Pallet Types
The first step is to set up your Carton/Pallet Types on the system. To do this go to Cartons & Pallets then Extras. Users will be able to add new carton or pallet types, as well as edit and delete existing entries.β
2.1 Carton Types
When adding new Carton types the following information is needed:
Name: The name of the Carton.
This is also referred to as the Storage Media Name, which is the internal system identifier used throughout the Mintsoft application, in reports, and in the mobile app.
Description: A short description of what the Carton is used for.
Prefix: A code that is applied to the Carton.
Weight (KG): How much does the Carton weigh when empty.
Length, Width, Height(CM): The dimensions of the Carton.
MaxWeight(KG): What is the maximum weight allowed in the Carton.
Once this information has been added please click Create.
2.2 Pallet Types
When adding new Pallet types the following information is needed:
Name: The name of the Pallet.
This is also referred to as the Storage Media Name.
Description: A short description of what the Pallet is used for.
Prefix: A code that is applied to the Pallet.
Weight (KG): How much does the Pallet weigh when empty.
Length, Width (CM): The dimensions of the Pallet.
Max Weight (KG): What is the maximum weight allowed on the Pallet.
Once this information has been added please click Create.
3. (Optional) GS1 and SSCC Config
If you have a GS1 account and wish to use SSCC numbers, you can set this up for you and your clients, this is also used to auto generate SSCC numbers. βTo set this up please do the following:
Click Clients then Overview.
Find the client you want to set up.
Click Actions then Edit.
Then click the SSCC Config tab.
Turn ON Enable SSCC.
You will then be asked to input your GS1 information, which will be used to generate SSCC numbers for shipments.
4. Set-Up: Creating Cartons and Pallets
Note: Cartons and Pallets can also be uploaded to Mintsoft in bulk. To learn more, please review our Bulk Upload help guide.
4.1 Set-Up: Creating a Carton
To create a new carton please do the following:
Click Cartons & Pallets.
Next, click Create New Carton.
Select the Warehouse.
(3PL Only) Select the Client.
Enable Auto Generate Code or enter a Carton Code in the Code field.
Select the Carton / Pallet Type: Choose the Type you want to apply.
This is also referred to as the Storage Media Name.
Select the Location: Where is the Carton located.
Select the Assigned Pallet: You can assign a new carton directly to an existing pallet.
Next, click Create.
4.2 Set-Up: Creating a Pallet
To create a new pallet please do the following:
Click Cartons & Pallets.
Next, click Create New Pallet.
Select the Warehouse.
(3PL Only) Select the Client.
Enable Auto Generate Code or enter a Pallet Code in the Code field.
Select the Carton / Pallet Type: Choose the Type you want to apply.
This is also referred to as the Storage Media Name.
Select the Location: Where is the Pallet located.
Next, click Create.
4.3 Set-Up SSCC
If you wish to use SSCC numbers for Cartons/ Pallets, please follow the steps below:
Click Actions then Edit against the Carton/ Pallet on the Carton/Pallet Overview screen.
Enable Auto Generate SSCC Number if you want the system to auto-generate SSCC codes.
This requires additional setup, please review the GS1 and SSCC Config section above.
Or manually enter the Full SSCC Number if needed.
Finally, click Update.
5. (3PL Only) Storage Costs for Carton and Pallet Types
For users with the Cartons and Pallets module, you can charge clients for storage based on the Carton and/or Pallet Types used. This is set up in a two-step process:
First, enable Use Carton/Pallet Type Storage Cost toggle on the Client (Storage Costs tab), this changes the storage calculation method.
Then, set up the actual storage prices in 3PL Accounting.
To use this new type of storage charge, please do the following:
Click Clients then Overview.
Find the Client.
Click Actions then Edit.
Next, click the Storage Costs tab.
Set Use Carton/Pallet Type Storage Cost to ON.
Finally, click Save.
Once this has been enabled on the Client(s) you can add Carton/Pallet Type Storage Prices. To set up storage costs for Cartons and Pallets please do the following:
Click 3PL Accounting then Overview.
Next, click Carton/Pallet Type Storage Prices then Create.
Set the Client or leave as ALL.
Select the Carton/Pallet Type.
Set the Cost.
Then, set the Frequency.
Finally, click Create.
Repeat for additional costs if needed.
6. (3PL Only) Picking Costs for Carton and Pallet Types
For users with the Cartons and Pallets module, we have added the ability to set picking costs against your Carton and Pallet types. This will only apply if using the Carton/Pallet picking method on Mobile. In other cases, the standard picking costs set against the Client will apply. To set up picking costs for Cartons and Pallets please do the following:
Click 3PL Accounting then Overview.
Next, click Carton/Pallet Type Picking Costs then Create.
Set the Client or leave as ALL.
Select the Carton/Pallet Type.
Set the Standard First Carton/Pallet Type picking Cost.
Then, set the Additional Carton/Pallet Type picking Cost.
Finally, click Create.
Repeat for additional costs if needed.
