Orders in Mintsoft can be split into multiple parts, this can be beneficial if some of the stock is available to ship allowing partial fulfilment. In this article, we will cover some of the reasons why an order might be split.
Holding Order Policy
Depending on the holding order policy set on the 3PL Client (Or Client Settings for Multi-Channels) orders where some stock is available will either go onto backorder status or split into two parts. The Holding Order Policy tells the system what to do when an out-of-stock order is received, there are three options to choose from:
Manual: This will leave any orders in Holding status waiting for the client user to action what to do, however, this will mean required by backorder inventory figures will not appear on reports. Or when stock is added to the system it will not get allocated to any orders in Holding. This is not a very efficient setting.
Place on Back Order: This will place the entire order for all order lines in back-order status. This means that any in-stock product lines on the order will also be held until all product lines on the order are complete. This is the most cost-efficient method of dealing with back-orders as it ensures that only 1 shipment is made per order. You can also choose later to split orders manually if the need occurs by viewing backorders on Orders, then Back Orders.
Split Order: This method will automatically split the order into an in-stock part and an out-of-stock part - leaving only the out-of-stock part on backorder. So the system denotes the order as Part 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. This method ensures your customer receives their in-stock items faster but results in 2 shipment expenses.
Product Warehouse Allocations
Orders can be split if the products are being fulfilled by Different Warehouses. To learn more about this, please review our Product Warehouse Allocation help guide.
Barcode Verification
Unverified Items (e.g. items that have had picking skipped) within orders can also be split via the Barcode Verification screen. Note that the relevant role will need to be enabled for users for this to work, which can be found via the following:
Click Settings, then Warehouse User Accounts.
Select Actions next to the relevant user.
Under the Picking-Super category, tick the box next to AdminBarcodeSplitOrder.
Shopify Split Shipping Integration
Mintsoft's Built-in Split Shipping Capability
Mintsoft includes a built-in split shipping feature that allows it to process orders divided across multiple shipments. When an order is split within Mintsoft, each shipment is tracked separately, and the corresponding tracking details are sent back to Shopify automatically. This feature does not require additional Shopify apps, offering a native solution for managing split orders.
Key Benefits
No third-party apps needed for split shipping.
Automatic update of shipment tracking information in Shopify.
Handling Orders Split by Third-party Shopify Apps
While Mintsoft does not support direct integrations with Shopify order-splitting apps such as Order Split or SplitOrder, it can still process the split orders created by these apps. Once an order is split in Shopify by a third-party app, Mintsoft imports and handles each split order as a separate entity.
How It Works
Split orders created in Shopify (via third-party apps) are processed as individual parts upon import into Mintsoft.
Tracking and order handling remain seamless within Mintsoft.
Recommended Settings for Shopify Configurations
To ensure smooth integration and accurate processing of split orders in Mintsoft, specific setup adjustments are recommended when Shopify uses apps to split orders.
Configuration Recommendations
Avoid Webhooks for Shopify Connections: Webhook functionality may conflict with the delay needed for processing split orders.
Set an Order Import Delay: Configure a delay on the Shopify connection for Mintsoft. This holds off the import process long enough for split orders to finalize any required changes in Shopify or via the external app.
These adjustments help Mintsoft accurately reflect the updates made to split orders during the Shopify-side processing. For further assistance and configuration details specific to your business needs, contact Mintsoft Support or consult the platform's documentation.
FAQ
An error occurred when attempting to split the order! Please try again
If you are receiving this error message it is because the order has already been split once, so it cannot be split again. Once an order has been split it is assigned a value (Example: 1234-Copy) this cannot be done again from the source order.
Source Order: 1234
Splits Into: 1234-Copy
If you try and split the source order again it will apply -Copy at the end which has already been added to an order.
