This is a setting in the Shipping area that gives you precise control over when volumetric (dimensional) weight is used to charge for shipping, instead of the actual physical (dead) weight of a parcel. The setting allows you to configure the Volumetric Weight calculation based on what makes sense for your business, instead of applying volumetric pricing globally, you get flexible, rule-based control.
Volumetric weight charging is important for large-but-light parcels, where couriers bill based on the space a package takes up rather than its actual weight. Previously, once volumetric charging was switched on for your account, it applied to every order always using whichever was greater, the dead weight or the volumetric weight. That "all or nothing" approach didn't suit customers who only wanted volumetric pricing for certain couriers, services, or destinations.
Configuration
In order to set this up, please do the following:
Go to Shipping Management.
Then Extras.
Select Volumetric Weight Calculation Mapping.
Click Add New Mapping
Enter the Client, or leave it as ALL.
Select a Courier, or Courier Service or leave it as ALL.
Select a Country, or leave it as ALL.
Select a Shipping Zone, if required.
Then click Add.
Invoicing
When an order is invoiced, the system checks your rules. If the order matches and the volumetric weight is greater, it charges on the volumetric weight; otherwise it uses the physical weight. In every case, a note is automatically added to the order recording which weight basis was used, giving you a clear audit trail.
